Frustrated with not being able to install or update any app from the Google Play Store on your Android or is device, then don't worry because you have come to the right place. I had experienced the same problem and was left scratching my head. I did manage to find a solution by searching here and there and was finally able to solve it. So, I decided to post it here so that it helps others.
The exact error wordings are:
“app could not be downloaded due to error. (error code : 963)“.
The possible reason for this error is:
For some reason, the device is not able to write data to the preferred installation location or to the default storage location which is required to download the app. It may be due to insufficient storage space also.
Possible solutions for this problem are:
Solution 1: Try changing the preferred installation location of your device. The options are:
i) internal memory
ii) external memory (SD card)
iii) let the system decide
Try to change the default drive letter by selecting the radio button against that choice. If you are unsure, then select the (iii)rd option - let the system decide
You can access this selection by following the below link on your device:
Settings -> Storage -> Default Installation Location
Solution 2: Try changing the default storage location from the internal storage to the external storage or vice-versa
Solution 3: Clear the cache and data of the Google Playstore App which can be accessed under Settings -> Apps
Solution 4: Your may have really run out of space on both your internal and external memory. So, try deleting the old apps or files which you no longer need. If you can't figure out what to delete then you my as well try to increase your memory by adding a higher capacity SD card
Hope your issue gets resolved by following any of the above 4 solutions. Mine got resolved by following the first solution. Happy androiding!!!
