Former IAS officer Anil Baijal will replace Najeeb Jung as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has sent Anil Baijal’s name to President House or Rashtrapati Bhavan for formal approval. The post of Delhi Lieutenant Governor fell vacant after the abrupt resignation of Najeeb Jung. Anil Baijal’s name has been doing round ever since Najeeb Jung quit. President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted resignation of Najeeb Jung as Delhi Lieutenant Governor.
Anil Baijal is a 1969-batch IAS officer. Baijal was earlier in the executive council of the think-tank Vivekananda, a New Delhi-based think-tank that had many of its fellows appointed to senior positions in the Narendra Modi government. Baijal also served in as home secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
Delhi’s former Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung in a surprise move had resigned on December 22, 18 months before the end of his tenure.
